P/NP for Major Prep (especially STEM majors)?
Estela Narrie
27:05
So if a student takes 14 plus units of P/NP, would then the spring 2021 student not be able to take P/NP
Barbara
27:08
What can you say about how major prep, if taken for P/NP will be viewed by academic departments later on or by UC graduate program admissions?
Claudia Ramirez
27:11
This could be for major prep? not just general ed?
Gretchen Harris
27:41
We'll get to major prep in future slides.
Samone Sayasenh
28:20
If a student get a NP graded for a required course due to technology issues and/or life situations, will there be an appeal process?
Rebecca Tran
28:24
What about classes taken for P/NP in Fall 2020? The slide mentioned Wi/Sp/Su 2020.
Gretchen Harris
28:38
The grading option of P/NP will not count towards the cap for winter, spring, summer 2020. So when institutions go back to in-person instruction, the policy returns to usual.
Robin Eurgubian
29:29
Will any campus or programs ever convert that P to a 2.0 in GPA- or across the board will all P grades stay out of the GPA for all programs?
Gretchen Harris
29:47
Students should contact campuses to which they have been admitted if they get a NP in a required course. That is a campus decision.
Gretchen Harris
30:18
Pass grades are not used at all in GPA calculations, so it will not be converted.
Jose Lara
30:27
Will this ppt be available? When?
Aimee Tran
31:06
Get we get a grid of each campus/major that requires letter grade
Gretchen Harris
31:08
Yes, this presentation is being recorded and both the recording and the powerpoint in pdf format will be posted to the UC Toolbox on the TCW later this week
Brittany Lundeen
32:37
I second Aimee Tran request to get a grid of each campus/major that will continue to require letter grade
Rebecca Contreras
33:16
A grid would be great
Daniel Weber
33:30
Letter grade per program per campus?
Brittany Lundeen
33:57
yes, per program per campus
Kimm BLACKWELL
34:24
Since so much is campus specific - can the UCOP require each UC to have theses webinars to update us please!
Cassandra Nafziger
34:32
yes, a grid would be wonderful!
Nicole Goedhart
34:42
Could we please get contact information regarding admission and major issues and questions for each particular campus since this is so campus specific - a person/ or people at each campus that counselors and students can contact directly
Arlene Vargas
34:42
P/NP for TAG applicants: the current recommendation is for student to take major prep courses with a letter-grade. Will this also be the case for courses students take to TAG to a campus? Also, due to these flexible grade options for students, do you see a change in TAG requirements for Fall 2021 applicants?
Michal Temkin
36:22
Please repeat what you said about UC Berkeley
Sarah Boland
36:30
UC Berkeley - one more time please
Sofia Totapudi
36:33
agreed! I missed the specifics
Jacqueline Escobar
36:43
Thank you UCR and UCI!
Nahal Ghodousi
36:46
Please repeat what you said about UC Berekely and UCI
Sofia Totapudi
36:57
was UCB just for 7 course pattern or for major prep as well?
Rachel Anicetti
36:59
I wrote down: UCI and UCR will accept PNP for all major prepUCB College of Letters and Science will accept PNP for GE courses
Gretchen Harris
37:34
I'll ask Laura to repeat that after she goes through the slides for everyone
Ariana Solis
37:35
just to verify UCR and UCI will accept p/np for all majors prep
Brittany Lundeen
37:39
grid how about for the most highly competitive major at campuses.
Daniel Weber
37:40
Maybe have them post the lists on their webpages? Wouldn't expect the UCOP to produce the list, the campuses should make their own lists accessible.
Mayra Novasky
37:41
Thank you @Rachel Anicetti!
Elaine Piparo
37:54
Would the fact that UC is now allowing Pass grades factor in for students who did take the Pass option for major and the particular school didn’t allow it for major — would this quality for an appeal in admission if they were denied based on Pass work in the major prep courses?
Maria Arvizu-Rodriguez
37:58
Yes, please clarify the UCB update: I thought UCB (all UCs) were ok w/ GEs being P/NP temporarily already
Nicole Goedhart
38:04
Understood…if we could then get a list of campus and major specific contact people please instead
Nicole Goedhart
40:00
Again, it appears that each UC campus is very specific and different…again, please the need for counselors and students to have specific people and contact information for each campus/major etc
Cecile Davis Anderson
40:07
What can students expect when trying to call selected UC campuses? Will there be enough staff to handle these questions?
Sofia Totapudi
41:31
second the need to specific contacts!
Julie Clark
41:34
Will UCs accept summer or fall courses for transfer that were taught 100% online, especially in hard STEM, like Organic Chemistry?
Lucy Jovel
41:41
Could you please address TAG- Arlene Vargas asked a very important question:
Lucy Jovel
41:45
P/NP for TAG applicants: the current recommendation is for student to take major prep courses with a letter-grade. Will this also be the case for courses students take to TAG to a campus? Also, due to these flexible grade options for students, do you see a change in TAG requirements for Fall 2021 applicants
Melain McIntosh
42:04
What is the best way to contact campuses regarding questions during this time (COVID-19)-email, phone...?
Gretchen Harris
42:10
We're almost through slides, so I am holding questions to the end.
Kirby Dominguez
42:16
What if LAB courses (Chem course) are not offered online due to complications with offering Lab courses through online format. Any broad statement or approach accommodating the limitations?
Helen Ward
42:59
Also known as Emergency Withdraw
Aimee Tran
43:16
please each individual campus compile a list of letter grade only for major prep with contact information
Aimee Tran
43:33
UC
Daniel Weber
43:37
as well as if coursework must be completed by end of spring.
Denia Guillen
43:39
Not sure if someone asked this already, but will this power point be available on the UCOP website?
Melain McIntosh
43:41
EW- Excused Withdrawal-new for the CCCs, about 2 years ago
Maria Scheper
45:18
Is it better for a student to receive an EW or drop a class? I assume it will be better to receive am EW as the drop will not explain why they had to drop a class?
Aimee Tran
47:53
please make this ppt available asap
Angela Stewart
48:04
If a student has a choice between W or EW, EW is better- it doesn't count toward probationary status or number of attempts. But does count toward attempted units for fin. aid.
Nune Mikayelyan
48:11
How will appeals/reviews be conducted due to changes in class completion?
Sabrina Hagmann
50:11
Student will not have to request an extension for quarter system grades correct? The school does it right?
Sandra Parsons
50:28
Will students be able to defer admission to the spring if courses continue to be offered only online in the fall?
Nicole Goedhart
50:37
Again, it would appear that each UC campus is very different and specific and has different guidelines and polices in all areas etc. Sorry to keep pushing this but it would be super helpful if we all will therefore could get specific contact people at each UC campus who we or our students can talk to directly in each area (major prep, intent to register, financial aid)
carmen johnson
51:31
Will the current situation have an impact on the total number of transfer students being admitted to each campus?
Gretchen Harris
52:09
No, this will not impact the number of transfer students that will be admitted. We are still committed to the 2:1 ratio.
carmen johnson
52:34
thanks!
Gretchen Harris
54:05
As decisions are made concerning Fall 2020 instruction (online or in-person), UC will continue to have discussion about admission requirements and what options will benefit the student. Remember, this regards admission requirements as selection is a campus and individual department issue.
Brittany Lundeen
57:10
thank you Gretchen and Laura for doing this session. I know you don't have all the answers but we appreciate the opportunity to tell you our concerns and appreciate you listening and providing the information you can give.
Jacqueline Escobar
58:01
Agree with Brittany! Thank you Gretchen and Laura!
Patricia Ortega
58:12
Even for major prep were applicable? For the AP?
Nicole Goedhart
58:16
What about major prep for some UC’s and majors for AP credit? Some require higher scores
Janet Robinson
58:21
Yes! Thank you so much Laura and Gretchen for providing as much information as you can and for doing these sessions to keep us posted as things evolve!! Sooooo helpful!!!
Gretchen Harris
58:30
We appreciate you so much! It's such a fluid time right now, so we do thank you for your patience as we work systemwide to get you answers. We will continue to update FAQs as well. https://admission.universityofcalifornia.edu/response-covid-19.html
Michelle Montano
58:48
If a student has been admitted but failed a course due to COVID-19 - will his/her admission be revoked? Normally I would say yes, but these aren’t normal circumstances.
Maria Arvizu-Rodriguez
59:22
If a
Aimee Tran
01:00:02
Thank you Laura, Gretchen and Angelica!
Cheryl Latimer
01:00:03
Thank you Laura and Gretchen!
Maria Arvizu-Rodriguez
01:00:47
If a CCC is moving to a temporary, universal P/NP grading basis for spring 2020, do you think that departments will accept P/NP major prep courses?
Gretchen Harris
01:00:52
If a student has failed a course, they should contact the campus to which they have been admitted, but please do know that campuses do try to work with students when possible and the students can may be able toppeal through their admitted student portals.
helen kang
01:00:53
Similar to Michelle Montano’s question - will there be an appeal process for students who are either applying or having been admitted should COVID-19 affect their grades..If there is an appeal process, what will that look like and timeline wise what will happen?
Theresa Barragan-Echeverria
01:01:54
Is there a deadline for our college to send an email regarding ability to meet the transcript deadline?
Nicole Goedhart
01:01:57
Thank you so much for your support and information
Melain McIntosh
01:02:27
Thank you Gretchen. Laura and Angelica!
Vanessa Olguin
01:03:17
For Spring 2020 only or Summer 2020 as well?
Gretchen Harris

UCB L&S: P in GE courses
Robin Eurgubian
01:05:43
Can you address P/NP in general ed at schools (aside from UCB) for those who are not completing IGETC?
Patricia Ortega
01:05:57
P/NP for TAG for UCR and UCI as well?
Gretchen Harris
01:06:01
B L&S is accepting P in all GE
Rachel Anicetti
01:06:26
If a future applicant takes a course P/NP this term, will they be asked to retake for a letter grade next year?
Amaliya Blyumin
01:07:00
Should a college email UC to let know that they are only offering the paper IGETC Certification?
Robin Eurgubian
01:08:30
Will UCB L&S allow for partial-IGETC now?
lise flocken
01:09:34
Can we extend the IGETC certification into the summer ? Some UC schools insist it is completed in the spring
Laura Castro
01:11:34
If UC campuses could at least provide a contact e-mail for us to send the IGETC certifications electronically that would be helpful.
Gretchen Harris
01:12:02
There will be information for each campus on electronic transcripts in the May CAB. Stay tuned!
Claudia Ramirez
01:12:05
if our college can post their IGETC certificate on their transcript, will that work?
Estela Narrie
01:12:11
On IGETC, will you accept an electronic IGETC cert separate from the transcript? Or do they have to come together?
Gretchen Harris
01:12:19
Yes. You can post IGETC on the transcript.
Claudia Ramirez
01:12:27
thanks
Laura Castro
01:13:06
what if the student has completed coursework at other colleges?
helen kang
01:13:06
Can more info about the appeal process be provided including what will that look like and timeline wise what will happen if due to COVID-19 it affects their grades
lise flocken
01:13:08
IGETC - posted in summer - can we PLEASE get a YES from all campuses
Rene Lozano
01:13:12
what about for UCB ?
Rene Lozano
01:13:43
the only campus that requires igetc completion before summer ?
Sharis Amirian
01:14:22
Any word on how graduate programs will accept Pass/Credit for program prerequisites that students are currently taking at CCCs?
Jamaika Fowler
01:14:49
Could you answer
Jamaika Fowler
01:15:01
From Robin Eurgubian to Everyone: 12:12 PMWill any campus or programs ever convert that P to a 2.0 in GPA- or across the board will all P grades stay out of the GPA for all programs?
Claudia Ramirez
01:15:08
when is the UC TAG matrix going to be available for fall 2021 transfers
Gretchen Harris
01:15:53
Working on the TAG matrix right now! We don't have publication date yet as campus faculties are still discussing. We usually post it over the summer.
Claudia Ramirez
01:16:12
thanks!
Helen Ward
01:16:17
Our students who applied will have contact info that they can share with us?
Kevin Meza
01:16:34
CCs are now able to repeat classes of a C or better per the Chancellor's office. Have the UCs heard that yet? I know you just answered the question about repeating successfully repeated courses, but has the new CC policy been addressed?
Helen Ward
